Ever wonder how a DJ
becomes a Videographer?
My life has taken some interesting twists and turns over the years but I wouldn’t change a thing.
Early Media Work
My first career was in radio. When I was eight years old, I wanted to sing or play the drums. At the age of twelve, I learned I would never make a dime doing either one. I loved listening to the radio and said to myself, “I can do that!” There was no turning back. (I assure you, that hair and those lapels were pretty cool at the time.)
I worked as a DJ in clubs and local radio stations. As I grew and got in touch with my spiritual side, I started working at inspirational stations and eventually in ministry. (How a DJ becomes a Pastor is a story for another day.)
Video
About ten years ago, I understood the power of video. Words on a page are at the mercy of the reader’s preconceptions. A picture is very helpful. But with video, the experience can come to life. They see a show, a product or a service in action. A person can get a real sense of what the experience will be like for them.
I started filming weddings, baptisms, and special events for churches and friends. Eventually, I moved up to doing promotional videos for a community theater group and started recording classical voice recitals for my son and his classmates. I enjoyed helping them and often got good feedback on the videos. Eventually, my hobby turned into a side business.
Why I Do What I Do
Some people have $3,000-20,000 to hire a Hollywood film crew to film their kids’ birthday party. That’s not the world I grew up in.
I love being able to serve real people looking to preserve special memories or tell a story on video without breaking the bank. Whether it’s a wedding, milestone birthday party, or a Memorial Service honoring a life well lived, it brings me great joy to be able to capture those special moments for generations to come.
Telling Stories. Preserving Memories
I have worked with individuals and organizations to help promote upcoming events, tell their story, celebrate milestone birthdays, or even to record their wedding ceremony and celebration. I have worked with families, community theater groups, classical singers, and churches.
I have worked with people who’ve spent their entire life here in New England and those who were born in other lands. I’ve filmed Brazilian and Haitian weddings where I only understood every twentieth word. I worked with a couple from Sierra Leone and another couple from Rwanda.
